The YMCA National Training Institute had the privilege of hosting students pursuing Careers in Caregiving and Nursing Assistantship under the theme “Care for Caregivers.” In collaboration with Art of Living Kenya, participants engaged in the transformative Breath Water Sound Course, designed to help caregivers pause, nurture themselves, and reconnect with their inner strength.
Caregivers devote their lives to supporting families, patients in hospitals, residents in nursing homes, and communities in schools and workplaces. Yet, we hold to a simple truth: to care for others, you must first care for yourself.
During the program, learners immersed themselves in gentle stretches, yoga postures, breathwork, and meditation. These practices fostered deep relaxation—quieting the mind, easing the body into greater flexibility, and expanding breathing capacity. The atmosphere was one of peace, renewal, and empowerment.
We extend heartfelt gratitude to the Art of Living Kenya teachers—Anju Gupta, Nishi Pattni, Sarat, and Charles Odhiambo—for their wisdom and guidance. Special appreciation also goes to Mr. Edwin Michieka, tutor of the Caregiving and Nursing Assistantship course, for his support in making this initiative possible. Our thanks also extend to the YMCA learners in photography and videography, who beautifully captured these moments of healing and growth.
This gathering was more than a course—it was a reminder that self-care is not selfish, but essential.
